Mission Statement

The IPTAR Clinical Center (ICC) provides high quality, low-cost psychotherapy and psychoanalysis to people in the greater New York Metropolitan area, particularly those traditionally underserved by mental health services. Our commitment is to see individuals for as long and as often as necessary without regard for financial constraints.

• The ICC is a not-for-profit community resource serving the mental health needs of children, adolescents and adults in the greater Metropolitan area.
• The ICC has two divisions: the Adult Division and the Child and Adolescent Division. Both are staffed by therapists with specialized training.
• We utilize a Private Practice Model: Referrals are made to ICC therapists in their private offices throughout NYC or at our Clinical Center on the upper east side of Manhattan.
• Sliding Scale: Fees are set in consultation with the therapist. These fees are often substantially lower than fees typically charged by most private therapists. Insurance is accepted when possible.
• Clinicians: All therapists have a wide range of clinical experience. Many hold supervisory or teaching positions at a variety of professional agencies, universities, and hospitals. All therapists have completed or are in the process of completing post-graduate training at IPTAR.
• The ICC has been honored by the American Psychoanalytic Association as one of the finest community mental health clinics in the United States. Established thirteen years ago, the ICC has received grants from, among others, the International Psychoanalytical Assn., the Van Ameringen Fpoundation, and the Diane Goldberg Foundation, enabling us to continue our low-cost policies and conduct research on our work with patients and in the schools.
• The ICC is involved in ongoing research on the effectiveness of the psychotherapy provided by its clinicians. Results have been published in the Journal of the American Psychoanalytic Association (JAPA, 1999), and several doctoral dissertations and national presentations have utilized this data.
• We are committed to community outreach. We have a semi-annual newsletter, an on-site school program, in-service courses, and programs of special interest for the community.
• Our Board of Directors is made up of graduate psychoanalysts, candidates training to become licensed psychoanalysts, and members of the community who set policy and run the programs of the ICC.
• The ICC continues to grow and expand to meet the ever-changing needs of the community.
